Leveraging Your Athletic Experience: Network

One of the most underutilized assets for an athlete is their network. What do you think of when you hear the word ‘network?’ LinkedIn, Facebook, all of your friends & family?

Well, I want to take it a step further. As an athlete, I want you to think about all of the people who have ever watched you play, cheered you on, been a fan of your team, your school or city, or you as an individual. People who have written articles about you, followed your career, some of whom you might not even know! These are people who supported you during your athletic career, and I guarantee you, they would still love to support you after.

Story time.

I remember when I was building my life after sports and one day I got a direct message on Facebook…from my fourth grade teacher. What! She remembered having me as a student, had kept up with my life, my journey, and reached out to see if there was anything she could do to support me. All because of sports.

There is no need to struggle with:
finding a job
relationships
mental health issues

You. Are. Valuable.

Leverage that network, because it’s there for that very reason.

Purpose is not what you do, but why you do what you do. So what is your purpose beyond sports? Comment below. We’d love to hear from you.
